Grand Union Canal at Cosgrove

Description and Walk

From the Lock Lane car park, described below, you can walk in either direction along the canal towpath. Our video shows what you see if you go right as you meet the canal. Had we gone left, within half a mile or so we would have arrived at the Iron Trunk Aqueduct which carries the canal over the River Ouse. About 3/4 of a mile beyond that is Wolverton, and the second parking address that we have supplied, below.

We’re not sure about the height of the aqueduct, but on the occasion that we did walk over it we came across a couple of people who were queasy about doing the same. It must have been a phobia, as it has suitable railings.

Whichever way you go, this is a ‘there and back’ walk by a canal, not a circular affair.

Parking

Parking is Free.

Parking address:

Lock Lane, Cosgrove, Milton Keynes, MK19 7JR. Or, Wolverton Road, Wolverton, Milton Keynes, MK12 5NL.

We went to the Lock Lane adress, shown above, which takes you into a smallish parking area with an understated entrance to the right of a mobile home park. On the couple of occasions that we have been there was no trouble parking, though you may have to park away from the car park on a busy day (not that easy). Parking is free at the time of writing. We have never tried the Wolverton address - but you can always put it into Google Maps and drop the little yellow man on it to see what it looks like.

The smallish car park may fill on busy days.

The canal is just behind this line of cars.

Place/s to Eat

If you choose to walk in the right-hand direction from the Cosgrove car park it will not be long before you pass the Barley Mow pub on the opposite side of the canal. We went to the pub after we finished our walk - a short ride in the car. It has a decent-sized car park.

The food was good and well-priced. They have a lot of outdoor space for when the weather is good. Recommended.
