Heartwood Forest
Description and Walk
Heartwood Forest was mainly former agricultural land, but is now an 858 acre new forest with over 600,000 recently planted trees.
The site has an arboretum - a botanical garden for tress - containing around 60 native varieties, an orchard, a bluebell forest in April-May, a ‘Magical Wood’ sponsored by Disney, various trails, and plenty of wildlife and plant life.
The park is very popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders, and dog walkers - whose quadrapeds must be kept on leads in designated areas.
Follow the suggested trails, or else just stroll wherever you please. Our video, below, only shows a small part of what is there.

Parking
Parking address: B651, Sandridge, Hertfordshire, AL4 9DQ (nearest postcode). Sandridge is close to Harpenden and Wheathampstead.
The main car park for Heartwood Forest is pretty big, and an ovespill field is also available when needed. On a very pleasant day parking may still be limited, though. Heartwood Forest is a popular place to visit.
Place/s to Eat
We visited the Heartwood Tea Rooms just along the road in Sandridge - formerly known as the Darby Tea Rooms.
The premises are quite small and cramped, but as well as two main indoor seating areas they also have a heated patio area outside. They offer hot and cold food and obviously take a pride in their food options - not to mention their cakes.
Address: Heartwood Tea Rooms, 27 High St, Sandridge, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL4 9DD.
