Mardley Heath Wood Welwyn
Description and Walk
Mardley Heath, or Mardley Heath Wood, is a 41-hectare wood in Welwyn, Hertfordshire. It was formerly a gravel quarry.
The wood is in two parts straddling Heath Road, adjacent to which there is generally enough car parking space available for most days. See parking details, below.
We can’t say it’s a very exciting place to visit as it’s a bit of a woody kind of wood without vast stretches of open field to break the gloom or any proximity to flowing water. Still, if you like the peace and quiet of a woodland stroll, or you have a quadruped in need of somewhere to walk or trees to aim a cocked leg at, this could be right up your street.
We have visited Mardley Wood a couple of times and from memory it takes about an hour to walk all the way around. Or maybe it takes a bit less, not really sure. Sometimes we mess around taking photos and suchlike. Anyway, you get the idea.
